This feathery flock began as an investigation into the properties of plywood, namely grain. Even though each member of a flock behaves as an individual, the group as a whole performs according to a set of rules. These rules are virtual in a sense, composed of executed actions & reactions possible within their respective matrices- but the matrices are not isolated. A matrix encompasses many variables, including the environment, and inherent properties within. Those concepts relate to this tectonic assembly through the connections behaving as environmental constrictions, while the degree of curvature is an inherent characteristic.
The aggregation is comprised of clusters that subdivide into individual units whose interrelationship is determined by the grain of the plywood to influence curvature. By varying the orientation of the grain by increments of 5º [in relation to the material being grafted from], the clusters arrange themselves into an arching structure. A flowing organic form arises as the clusters disperse themselves along a larger system. Predetermined dynamic points of connection vary by two root types: unit›unit or cluster›cluster . u›u connections lead to local networking, while c›c connections allow these local networks to transform this tectonic assembly into a sophisticated aggregation.
